RGB LED Arduino Shield - Raspbarry Pi

Postby hmuller » Wed Feb 05, 2014 11:47 am

I connected the "phenoptix - RGB LED Arduino Shield - by Re-Innovation" to my Raspbarry PI's Miso/Mosi pins and found out it didn't work. This is because of the 3,3V Raspberry Pi's IO pins and the logic high of 0,8V Vdd of the WS2801. What's the best way to fix this?

Can I just change the 7805 circuit to power the ws2801 with 3,3V? My leds are 12V, (selected with the jumper on the board). Or do I need to fit a level shifter in between somehow? Any suggestions?

I think a level shifter will do work for you here. This one should do the trick.

Would it work if I replace the 7805 with a LD1117V33? I have a LD1117V33 laying arround here. W2801 seems to be able to hanle 3,3V but I'm not sure about the circuit around the led drivers... please advice.
