phenoptix uv leds on a big clive round pcb help!

Postby cornz38. » Wed Jan 01, 2014 2:20 pm

Ok, this has to be the daftest post this year (and its new years day) but its really baking my noodle.

Its for RGB but this one is populated with phenoptix superflux UV.
So, as I have used one of these before with no problems, I cannot figure out for the love of me why what I am doing isn't working.
In a nutshell, I am applying +5v dc to the + terminal, then gnd to either R, G or B.
At this point I was expecting 3 of the leds to light , so +5v to + and gnd to R, I would expect 3 of the leds to light. Ditto for B and G. But no, it doersnt work!!!!

Folks, am I doing something so obviously wrong that its staring me in the face, or am I approaching this completely incorrectly.
Any suggestions welcome...

Its your voltage! You've got three UV in series on each of the rgb and they're a 3.4v led so that's 10.2v not including your resistor. They were designed for 12v in mind really, the ir LEDs are really low voltage so allows them to work on 5v.
Hope that helps!
Happy new year!

Not quite!
One of my more unique projects was growing crystals over auto changing RGB leds. They look cool! Especially if you can get a clear crystal....

That sounds amazing but I have to say pictures or it didn't happen! I love growing crystals. Was a point of personal pride during my chemistry degree that any recrystalisations yielded great big rocks!
