*Wip* 5x5x5 Sound Reactive Green LED Cube

Hi guys, have finally started up work on my led cube, will update on the progress! :D

First two layers done, now need to finish the last 3 and check out instructables for the assembly method!
These Leds are surprisingly bright and i'm starting to worry that the each led may light up the one above ruining the pattern, Don't know if there is a way around this apart from sanding each lens to diffuse it! :L

Looking forward to seeing it! Doesn't seem right that a wip is all the way in Misc. I'm off to the admin page!

Perfect, can see it all now....
Great start mate, although I found that putting the levels together can be tricky, I'd advise either having a steady handed helper whilst you start on the corners or fashion a 'prop' of some description that will hold the layer at the correct level.
On the subject of lighting the level above, I've found that this does occur. Its more noticeable in brighter conditions strangely, I think this is probably because in darker conditions the actual lit LED itself 'outshines' the reflection if you will get on the LED above.
I'm not sure that sanding the LED will cure this, I did consider a simple but very time consuming, (especially on the larger cubes) method of 'shielding' the underside of the higher LED with a punched piece of card/paper (use a small leather/craft punch) and stick it to the bottom of each LED.
I honestly don't think that you'll notice it once its up and running and you're staring at it transfixed!! 8-) 8-)

Thanks for the advice! I have just finished all 5 layers, and I think that I will make 4 small spacers about 1" high to set the layers whilst joining, although I really could do with some helping hand stands... Might grab the PCB holders Ben's got up in the store, but I'll give the spacer method a go and see!
How did you connect them together? From what I can guess it looks like bending over the tips of each anode seems to be the easiest way to align the columns for soldering...
I think I'll just leave the bottoms of the led's for now and see how it looks, I'm sure it'll be fine haha!
Really appreciate the tips!

Have been really distracted with the car at the mo, but I have finally started assembling the layers... It's tricky!

Mine was only a 4^3 cube, but I just made large solder bridges. Keeping it all lined up was a bit of a pain and also it is fairly brittle.
